Santiago: A Mountain-View Metropolis

A visit to Chile’s verdant capital city combines a skyscraper skyline and sweeping views of snow-capped mountains with world-class sophistication, a burgeoning arts scene, dashes of boho flavor and eccentricity to spare. Santiago is a thrilling mix of everything from old colonial architecture, art gallery openings and major museums, to skiing, hiking and parties that last well past sunrise.

Be it grit, glamor or a perfect, yet unlikely mix of both, each neighborhood — or barrio — boasts a flavor of its own.

The well-heeled Providencia and Las Condes offer elegant eateries, stylish clubs and first-rate retail therapy sessions. Stroll west to kick off your night on the town in the sidewalk eateries of the more hip hoods. Barrios Brasil nods to its elegant history, as family luncheons rub shoulders with punk-rock barhoppers. The stunning Lastarria’s, once a sleepy residential community, features gorgeous, winding cobblestone streets that trot past new boutique hotels, coffeeshops and independent Chilean winemakers. Lastarria itself has more than six museums in 10 blocks, countless theaters, cinemas and exhibition halls and is home to Ñam, Santiago’s’ annual culinary festival. It’s the electrifying density of seemingly endless cultural exchange that is indeed the spirit of Santiago.

The grand architecture and malls of Centro offer respite in its hillside parks, which are perfect for an hour’s break to stare at the sky, or an impromptu picnic. And it’s in Centro that the AC Hotel Santiago Costanera opens its doors in the heart of the city, and shadow of Costanera Center, the world’s biggest skyscraper in South America. The hotel fittingly sits in the commercial hub, but also at Santiago’s eclectic crossroads of art, culture and history, and the city’s brilliant future.

Conveniently located just a few blocks from the river, hotel guests can walk past the sculpture park, then enter the leafy paradise of Parque Metropolitano, better known as Cerro San Cristóbal, to decompress from the day’s meetings. Stroll along the park’s south edge, and you’ll eventually hit Barrio Bellavista, the heart of the city’s free-spirited arts scene since the 1970s. There, you’ll also find Centro Gabriela Mistral, the striking cultural and performing arts center named after the Chilean author who was the first Latin American to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. Grab a quick cab ride up Avenue Providencia, and you’re home in less than 15 minutes, not to mention the border of Barrio Las Condes and a stone’s throw from several museums.

Coming back home to the hotel perches its guests in a luxurious treetop haven that looks over the splendor of the city. Luna, the 11th floor terrace bar, is home to sweeping, panoramic views of Santiago’s skyline, with the snow-capped Andes in the distance. Wrap yourself in a blanket and walk up to the telescope along the rail to view Chile’s starry night skies. Each month, a full-moon event celebrates the planetary cycle with elegant cocktails and creative tapas.

AC Hotels welcome you to a colorful, convivial stay in Santiago. Between the city, the culture, the mountains and the sky, we are sure you’ll find many different ways to enjoy your stay.
